about afife

a gem in the northern portugal

Afife is an old parish located by the sea, about ten kilometres north of the county seat, Viana do Castelo.

Afife has an admirable scenery of landscapes that are perfectly interconnected: the sea, the veiga, the houses and the hill. On the coast of the sea there is a beach sheltered and divided by strong cliffs that form sandbanks that shelter them from the strong winds of the North.

In the parish of Afite there is a river with the same name, which has three tributaries: the streams of Pedreira, Agrichousa and Fojo.

Extraordinary Experiences

We stayed here for just over a week and really loved it. The place is lovely and is clearly a loved and cherished family holiday home, and not just renting out holiday accommodation. The decor is great, lots of quirky objects to look at and enjoy. The garden is beautiful and has an amazingly clear steam running past it, which our children swam in. The house was really clean and well facilitated, we had most things we needed. The hosts provided cots, baby bath and high chairs, making our stay much easier. They were also very easy to communicate with, briefly checking by text that we were ok during our stay. The surrounding area is easily accessible with a car and the hosts provided us with some information about restaurants and places to visit, which we followed up and weren’t disappointed. Overall an excellent place and excellent hosts! Thank you!

Rebecca – September 2019 (AirBnB review).

If you love the beach and surfing, Afife is like an hidden gem. Although it has a lot of tourists during the high season, it isn’t crowded as so many other places.

On the other side, you have the mountains where you can hike and find incredible waterfalls beautiful sceneries.
